SDG 1: No Poverty

The combination of higher trade costs, limited market access, and structural economic constraints makes poverty a persistent challenge for African landlocked countries.

The Challenge

At ALCRC, poverty is understood not merely as a lack of income, but as the outcome of long-standing structural constraints. High transport costs, dependence on transit corridors, weak industrial bases, and limited fiscal space all combine to reduce economic opportunity and entrench poverty.

Our Approach

Our passion for SDG 1 is rooted in the belief that poverty in landlocked countries is not inevitable; it is policy-driven and therefore solvable. ALCRC's work seeks to generate evidence that informs smarter policies, promotes equitable regional integration, and encourages investment in productive sectors.
